you’re not getting much are you?
by Kathy Wolfe ~ July 3, 2008
I hear that sometimes during a session. Parents tend to think we aren’t getting a whole lot of good shots during a session. I quietly just say, I think we are doing ok - and give a little wink. I’m not one to over react too much (unless its reeeeally bad) and I cant say I’ve had too many of those!!) However I tend to like the shots where sometimes the kids are in the backgrounds, walking through the shots, heads maybe in the way - thats kind of how life is anyway isnt it?? You sit to read a book with one of your children and sure enough - the other needs something or plops down too…or, you are watching your favorite tv show, and you are constantly dodging your head around your childs head because they are playing right in front of you when there is an entire house to play in. Its LIFE, right?? So photographs are life…and when they are giggling in the grass, and the others are playing in the grass, I’m not going to stop a shot for the 2 in the back to move… its life..happening right there for us all to see now, 10 years from now and when they are full grown with their own kids.

I LOVE the third one, where you glimpse her in the background! Oh my, they look close in age - this mom has her hands full!

I love your attitude. Sometimes we try so hard to get the perfect shot (yes, even us amateurs) that we miss the WHOLE point. Life is messy and beautiful, peaceful and chaotic. The unplanned and unexpected photographs can sometimes represent so much more than a perfectly posed one. Thank you for reminding me!
